This painting depicts a portrait of woman slightly distorted by a blurry long x shape that extends from the nape of her neck through her eyes to her forehead. This hyperreal portrait features locks of curling light brown hair. The subject has bright blue piecing eyes.

Jenny Morgan

Born in Salt Lake City, Jenny Morgan earned a BFA from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, Colorado in 2003 and received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2008. Morgan always paints close friends and family that provide a strong emotional connection. Magic is Real is a portrait of the artists friend Syrie in Morgan’s style of slightly altering realism through sanding, blurring or color glazing. In discussing her process, Jenny Morgan said “The painting is less about what the portrait looks like and more about what it feels like. I know my subjects personally and I am concerned with what is going on in their lives… it’s a very intimate process.”
